Gonorrhea

What is Gonorrhea?

  • It's a bacteria that causes infections.

How do you get Gonorrhea?

  • One common way to get Gonorrhea is to have unprotected sex with a partner that is infected with Gonorrhea.

How do I know if I have Gonorrhea?

  • If a guy has symptoms, he may have burning when he urinates (pees) and/or a discharge (a liquid that comes out of his penis that is not normal).
  • Sometimes a guy may not have symptoms or those symptoms may go away, but he may still test positive for gonorrhea. He would need to take medicine to be cured.
  • So if you have had unprotected sex, it is important to get tested and CURED, if you have it!

How do I get tested for Gonorrhea?

  • There is a NEW WAY to get tested by giving a URINE TEST for Gonorrhea. Some places have it; some place still use a swab into the penis to test.
  • DO NOT ASSUME that just because a doctor took urine from you that it is being sent for Gonorrhea! Ask the doctor exactly what tests he/she is ordering.

Is it Curable

  • YES. So if you have had unprotected sex, it is important to get tested and CURED, if you have gonorrhea!

It's also important to have your sexual partners treated.
